As I wrote in my last post there are some lovely new fabrics at the Sewing Studio including the Moda range called Avant Garden which I gave you a sneak peak of last week. This is a lovely range with a wide selection of patterns and colours.
As well as buying the fabric by the metre it is also available in jelly rolls, layer cakes and charm packs which makes it very desirable for patchwork projects.
The range includes abstracts and flowery and fruity patterns as well as large all over patterns of landscape vistas! The larger florals as shown in the first picture would cut out to be appliqued onto fabric to create fabric pictures or cards. In fact this selection of fabrics from Moda lends itself to avant garde designing and will turn every patchworker into an artist!
The other new range of fabric which I have found to be very exciting is the range of cotton flannels. These are small geometric patterns and also flowery patterns to mix and match. Lovely autumn colours mixed with sugary brights!
These cotton flannels would make delightful dresses for little girls or warm winter shirts and blouses for bigger girls as well as being ideal for cosy and warm lap quilts and throws. Especially quilts made with the raw edges on the outside which are frayed to give a soft feel to the quilt. The above photos are only a small selection of the flannels available. Go and have a look and be as inspired as I was! With winter coming soft cotton flannels are just the thing!
